The latest edition to the G-RAID family is the G-Technology G-RAID with Thunderbolt 3, USB-C and HDMI.
Two Thunderbolt 3 ports allow you to connect to the latest Apple Mac computers and also daisy chain up to 5 other Thunderbolt 3 devices. This can also be connected to Thunderbolt 2 via a Thunderbolt 3 to USB-C adapter (available from the Apple Store).
One USB-C port will also connect to 2016+ Mac Book Pro and is backwards compatible with any USB 3.0 computer via the included USB-C to USB-A cable.
One addition is the HDMI port for ultimate flexibility. HDCP 2.2 supports 4K 60/HDR.
The G-RAID is geared towards video editing when configured in RAID 0.
It can also be configured in RAID 1 to provide two identical copies of your data. e.g. A 12TB G-RAID configured in RAID 1 would provide 6TB of usable storage but two copies for insurance.
The G-RAID can also be configured in JBOD mode. This means each drive will mount separately on the desktop and can be used independently.
Data Transfer Speeds
The G-RAID Thunderbolt 3 provides high speed data transfer. Ideal for quickly editing, trans-coding and transferring audio, video image files. The read/write speeds for the available capacities are as follows:
- G-RAID 8TB Thunderbolt 3 – Up to 440MB/s
- G-RAID 12TB Thunderbolt 3 – Up to 440MB/s
- G-RAID 16TB Thunderbolt 3 – TBC
- G-RAID 20TB Thunderbolt 3 – Up to 480MB/s
- G-RAID 24TB Thunderbolt 3 – Up to 500MB/s
- G-RAID 28TB Thunderbolt 3 – Up to 510MB/s
The G-RAID Thunderbolt 3 has two removable (Enterprise Class) drives. Handy if you wish to archive the first set of drives and buy a new set. Or in the event of drive failure (in RAID 1), you can remove the failed drive and slot in a replacement drive so your data remains protected.
