G-Technology G-Drive USB 2TB
Firstly, the ever popular G-Technology G-Drive USB is now available in 2TB. Previously this was only available in 3TB, 4TB and 6TB and is a cheaper/smaller version than the G-Tech G-drive G6 which commands a higher price due to the additional dual Firewire 800 and eSATA interface.
This product is a great entry level hard drive due to the low cost but there is no compromise in style or quality.
The G-Drive USB contains a 7200rpm SATA III Hitachi HDD. HGST drives are know for their reliability.
When connected via USB 3.0 the G-Tech’ G-Drive USB 2TB will give data transfer rates up to 165 MB/s, fast enough for audio and video work although you would need a RAID product if you are doing data intensive editing. This is geared more towards data storage or as G-Tech put it “storage-intensive multimedia files”. But it will work fine running audio projects or small video projects.
The G-Drive is also backwards compatible with USB 2.0 but will give the slower speed when connected to USB 2.0.
The outer aluminium chassis will look great on your desk and is rock solid so will protect the HDD drive if accidentally knocked. The dimensions of the drive is 7.7” x 5” x 1.26” so has a fairly small footprint, great as it takes up less room the larger G-Drives G6 with FW800.
If you are looking for a good quality hard drive (compared to a cheap plastic HDD) but don’t want to pay a premium price then this is the ideal product.
G-Technology G-Drive Mobile 2TB
We now have stock of the 2TB G-Drive Mobile USB (previously only available in 1TB). The G-Drive Mobile USB is a ‘BUS’ powered portable hard drive solution so there is no need for external power supply as it draws power through the USB port.
Ideal for carrying your video, photo and music files and working with the laptop whilst travelling. The drive inside is a 5200rpm HGST drive and it has USB 3.0 connectivity.
If you require a faster drive (for editing audio or video) then check out the slimline G-Drive Mobile 1TB (pictured below). It comes with a 7200rpm 2.5″ HGST drive inside. When connected to a USB 3.0 port it will give up to 136MB/s transfer rate which is 23% faster than the standard mobile 5400rpm drive. The 1TB mobile is slim so will easily fit in your pocket, handbag or “man bag”.
All G-Technology drives are formatted for MAC but can be easily formatted for PC.
